Trouble shooting in Firefox
Standard Troubleshooting Steps: Follow the steps given below in order if you experience any problem with Firefox browser. If one does not work, do the next one:
Restart Firefox: You will have to close the Firefox completely. Select the file option from the top menu and then choose 'Quit. Restart your machine and then start Firefox again.
Clear private data: If you have any issues with loading the web pages, they can be resolved easily by simply clearing Firefox's cache and cookies. Click on 'Tools' menu and then choose clear private data option. The clear private data window will appear. Select the items given below in the list. You have to then press the button 'clear private data now', Download History, Cookies, Cache.
Troubleshoot themes and extensions: Sometimes it is possible that add-ons for Firefox may cause problems. Open Firefox in safe mode to find out whether the problem that you are experiencing is due to an add-on.
1] Completely close down Firefox. Click on 'File' menu located at the top of Firefox window and then choose 'Quit' menu item.
2] Go to the terminal and then choose 'run'. Type /path/Firefox/Firefox-safe mode.
3] Firefox then should start up with Firefox safe mode dialog box
4] In Firefox safe mode dialog box, click on 'Continue in the safe mode'
5] Again check whether the problem still persists
If the problem is not occurring in the safe mode then theme or extension is probably the cause.
Trouble shoot plug ins: Sometimes plug ins such as Windows media player, real player, quick time for Firefox can cause problems.
1] Open Add-ons window. This can be done by clicking tools menu and then selecting Add-ons
2] At the top of Add-ons window, click on plug ins icon
3] Click each Plugin that is in the list. You will have to then click the disable button
4] Test if the problem is still present
Clean reinstall: Another way of resolving Firefox issues is by a downloading a Firefox installer from the website Mozilla.com, closing the Firefox, deleting Firefox application folder and then again reinstalling Firefox. If this doesn't help follow the steps given below
1] You can download the recent version of Firefox from Mozilla.com. You should not download the latest version from unofficial sites that bundle Firefox browser with other software
2] If you want to retain the current profile then you should create a back up copy of the profile.
3] Uninstall Firefox. Take the help of some one if you don't know how to uninstall Firefox.
Make sure that you have:
Uninstalled Firefox from operating system
Deleted Firefox application folder
Deleted Firefox profile folder
4] Reinstall Firefox
5] When Firefox is launched for first time, Import Wizard appears and new profile will be automatically created.
6] Verify that the problem no longer appears
7] Reinstall your themes or extensions one by one to find out if any particular one is the cause of the problem
Making a new profile: A corrupt file can also cause problems with Firefox. You should try and create a new profile and check whether that solves your problem. If so then copy your data such as saved passwords, bookmarks to new profile
1] Start profile manager
2] Create new profile
3] Click on newly created profile in profile manager and then click start Firefox
Now test if the problem still occurs with new profile. If it does not occur that means there is no problem in copying data to new profile. For troubleshooting purposes, copy those files which correspond to your saved passwords and bookmarks.
