Location bar in Firefox

Location bar in Firefox is used to search a website that you are looking for. In Firefox, it is not necessary to type the exact URL of the website. In case you enter a invalid address (URL) then Firefox will try its best to open the desired website.
Internet Keyword search: When you type an invalid URL, Firefox first sends your request to keyboard search service. This service is generally Google's 'Browse by name' by default. For instance if you enter Mozilla foundation in the location toolbar then Firefox browser submits a query to this service as you have not entered a valid URL. The service then directs you to the best match and will most probably direct you to Mozilla Home page. If it is not able to find a clear match to your URL then search results for that entry are displayed.
Turning on and off: It is possible to control Internet Keywords search service by editing Firefox configuration. Note that this preference doesn't affect the smart keyword searches from Location bar.
1] In location bar, you have to type about:config and then press enter About:config warning page will appear. Click on “I will be careful, I promise, to continue to about:config page.
2] Search for preference keyword.enabled.
3] Double click keyword.enabled in order to toggle it between false and true. True enables the internet keyword searches. False disables the internet keyword searches.
Changing keyword service: You are allowed to specify a valid URL to perform Internet Keywords by simply changing keyword.URL preference in about:config page. For instance to set Internet Keywords service to do a Yahoo search, you can set keyword.URL to Yahoo Search Engine. Text that you have entered into location bar will now be appended to URL.
Domain guessing: In case you type an incomplete URL and then press enter, Firefox browser may try to complete the URL by adding suffix, prefix to what you have typed. For example, if you have typed www.mozilla then Firefox will add .com or .org to complete that URL. This will not work unless you have disabled Internet Keywords.
Turning on and off: You can activate or deactivate domain guessing by editing Firefox configuration.
1] In location bar, you have to type about:config and then press enter About:config warning page will appear. Click on “ I will be careful, I promise, to continue to about:config page.
2] Now type fixup into Filter prompt that is at the top of about:config page.
3] Double click on browser.fixup.alternate.enabled in order to toggle it between false and true. True enables Domain guessing. False disables Domain guessing.
Changing suffix or prefix: You can specify a suffix (like .net) or a prefix (like www) for Domain guessing feature. In about:config page you have to double click on browser.fixup.alternate.suffix or browser.fixup.alternate.prefix preference.
