Firefox Ubiquity

It would be really great if we could program a computer to learn when you using it and do then repeat those tasks without any human intervention. Until know it has not been possible, however efforts are going on. Recently, a news has come up saying that Mozilla is going to try to do this. Some 2 to 3 days ago it announced about the developments of a service called Ubiquity for Firefox.

You can add this service to the Firefox on your computer. What this service does is it will combine the data from several web pages and then it could use it for different purposes. The important thing that you should note here you would not need to do any thing to tell Firefox how to use it. It will use it all by itself some task’s that you want it to do.

The fusion or combination of the web services by this feature is called mashups. Until now only the trained developers could do such a thing. It was not possible for most of the common users who do not have that much technical knowledge. However, with the help of the Ubiquity feature, a common also would be able to do this effectively.

if you are confused about what you could use this feature for, consider the following example. If you want to email your friends to invite them for dinner at a restaurant and moreover in the email you also wish to add a map showing the location of that restaurant so that they can locate it more easily, creating such a email can be time consuming job when you are doing it yourself. However when you make use Ubiquity feature, Mozilla Firefox will do all this job and you can do some other task.

For using the Ubiquity feature you just need to access it and give simple instructions in the normal English. This is all. It will understand your instructions and perform the task without any mistake.

The mashups like the one discussed above are required everywhere. For example you may have used or at least herd about Zillow is one of the most commonly used mashup around the world. It is used for combining data related to real estate, maps, and content generated by the user. Then, another very popular mashup is, combining finance ties and news stories with tickers and stock charts by the use of Google. One more example is combining maps, contact information can calendars with online mail service, etc with the help of Yahoo.

Thus you can see that it is a very useful feature. Currently there is a lot of excitement about it all around the world. This is the first time that there is such tool available for a web browser, which would be helpful in personal aggregation. We can say for sure that cloud computing giants like NetSuite and salesforce.com would really love this feature. Because of this their suits are going to be more interactive. Some other alternatives from Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP are available at this moment, though they are on premise alternatives.

All these years Mr. Softy and others were useful for sharing data between two or more applications in its Office Suite. For example, a Power Point presentation. However, the Mashups in Ubiquity have taken the concept much further.

As you may be knowing computers cannot do anything by themselves. Making them do what you want them to, all by themselves is very very difficult, or we can say is impractical today. May be in the future it would be possible, however why wait until then, you can surely make use of this new feature of Firefox.
