When transferring the information in a Firefox profile to another profile- take care to prevent data loss!!!
When one transfers the settings from an existing Firefox profile to a new Firefox profile or to some other Firefox profile, it is very important to make sure that your web browsing history, web form history and saved passwords are copied properly.
It would not be incorrect to say that the web browsing history of your profile is nothing but a list of web sites that you have visited when you were logged into your Firefox web browser profile. More often than not, people find it very useful to store their web browsing history for a specified period of time. Keeping track of the web browser history helps them revert back to any particular web site very quickly. For example, if one knows that one has visited a particular web site a few days ago and if one wants to visit the website again, it is not necessary for the end user to remember the name of the web site. All you have to do is open the history sidebar in the Firefox web browsing software application when you are logged into your Firefox profile and search for any keyword associated with the web site. In a matter of few seconds, the web site that you visited will appear in the search results and you can log into the web site from the history side bar itself.
Further, when you visit any web site, the files of the web site are stored in your Firefox web browser’s cache. The purpose of storing the files of the web site in the Firefox web browser cache is to enable the Firefox web browsing software application to load the web site faster when you visit the website again. When you visit the website again, the Firefox web browser loads only those portions of the web site that has been altered since the last time you visited the website. That part of the web site that has not been altered since the last visit will be loaded from the hard disk instead of over the internet. This process has many advantages. Storing the web site from the cache ensures that the website is loaded a lot faster. If you do not copy the web browser history to the new Firefox profile, you will lose the advantages offered by the files stored in the Firefox profile’s cache.
Further, whenever you fill a web form using the Firefox web browsing software application, the information filled into the web form is stored for future reference. The next time you fill any form on the internet, the Firefox web browsing software application fills in the information stored in the Firefox profile is automatically filled into the fields. The storage of the information related to forms in the Firefox profile makes it very easy to fill forms on the internet. It is pertinent to note that all such information stored in the Firefox profile and not in the Firefox web browsing software application. The storage of the information in the Firefox profile ensures that the individuality of each and every profile of the Firefox web browsing software application is maintained.
While one is transferring the preferences and options of any Firefox profile to another profile, care has to be taken that these files are properly copied. Of course, any error in copying the files would not cause any significant long term damage. The only problem that you would have to start the process of building your web browser history and your web form history all over again. Hence, care should be taken to ensure that one does not lose information that has been painstakingly stored over a period of time.
