The bookmark back up option in Mozilla Firefox keeps your bookmarks safe from all accidents!!!
Recently, due to a sudden shutdown of my computer, the Firefox web browsing software application was abruptly terminated. When I restarted the computer, the Firefox web browser informed me that my Firefox profile had been damaged and that the default profile was being repaired and loaded. It is very important to note here that only the profile that was active was affected.
All other Firefox profiles were unaffected. Due to the data loss, I discovered that minor adjustments that I made to the display of the Firefox web browser had been lost. However, the minor adjustments I had made to the display feature of the Firefox web browser were insignificant and the loss of these adjustments did not hamper my web browsing experience. One major point of concern was the fact that I had lost all my bookmarks.
Due to the sudden termination of the operation of the Firefox web browser, the bookmark folder had got corrupted and not a single bookmark of mine was loaded when the default profile was repaired. I had never taken a backup of my Firefox web browsing bookmarks despite the fact that the total number of web sites bookmarked on my computer exceeded fifty. I was very worried and was wondering whether there was no alternative to visiting each and every website again to bookmark it when a friend of mine who is an expert in Mozilla Firefox dropped in.
I described the problem that I was facing and my friend told me that there was absolutely no need to worry. He told me that the fact that I was using the Firefox web browsing software application made it very easy to resolve the crisis. He told me that the facility of recovering bookmarks existed only with the Firefox web browsing software application. He guided me to the profile folder of my Firefox web browsing software application that was stored in the ‘application data’ folder of the user folder on my computer.
There, I found a web page containing a list of all the bookmarks that I had stored on my computer. The webpage clearly described the title of the bookmark and the link that led to the web site. The Firefox web browser takes regular backups of the bookmarks folder and stores it in the profile folder of the Firefox web browser. In the event of any unforeseen accident as described above, the back up list could be used to restore the bookmarks in a jiffy.
Once the backup of the bookmarks was in my hand, I opened the Firefox bookmark manager and started the import of the Firefox bookmarks. The import bookmarks option in the bookmark manager offered me two choices- import form Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and import from file. The import from file option has been provided specifically to ensure speedy restoration of the Firefox bookmarks if ever they are lost.
By selecting the import from file option and by leading the Firefox bookmark manager to the list of bookmarks stored in the form of a web page in the profile folder of the Firefox web browsing software application, all my bookmarks were restored in a matter of just a few seconds. The whole process did not take more than ten minutes. There is no doubt that this feature is unique to Mozilla Firefox. Any problem in Internet Explorer would have resulted in a problem in the operating system as well.
Due to the fact that I was using Mozilla Firefox, I managed to avoid any damage to the operating system and further restored the lost data in absolutely no time.
