One reason for people to get Firefox is that it looks so cool and interesting
One reason why a significant section of web browsing software application users are keen on getting their hands on Mozilla Firefox is due to its cool and innovative design. Till recently, people thought that design and its implications was a significant factor in the popularity of fun software applications such as music players etc.
That is why software applications such as music players offered a lot of themes, skins, wallpapers and other design related features. What is more, these themes, skins, wallpapers and other design related features were a significant reason in the popularity of the software applications themselves. I have known many persons who decided to install and use Winamp media players on their computers for the simple reason that Winamp looked very cool on the computer of their friends. Since the software application’s purpose is very simple, people found no difficulty in moving over to the software application from any other media player. They proceeded to get the same theme and skin and were very happy when their media player looked very cool.
Till recently, in fact till Mozilla Firefox was introduced, I do not think themes and skins were given a second thought as far as their incorporation with web browsing software applications were concerned. Bluntly put, people did not think that users would shift from one web browser to another just because the other web browser looked a lot cooler than the one that the user was using. However, the brains behind Mozilla Firefox did feel that the users would want to get Firefox because it looked cooler and better than other web browsing software applications. It would not be wrong to say that this approach has worked. I have seen many users shifting over from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and desiring to get Firefox because Mozilla Firefox looked a lot more interesting and exciting as compared to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Whether the users will stick to Mozilla Firefox or not is a separate question.
