Mozilla Firefox has done it again!!! The latest security update of the Firefox web browsing software application has been released to all the end users of the web browsing software application. Unlike the previous security update, the security update is not a big one. Needless to say, the end user of the web browser will find it a lot easier to download and install the same. Of course, as far as security updates of the Firefox web browsing software application are concerned, all the end user has to do is give his or her consent to the download and installation of the Firefox web browsing software application’s security update. Once the consent is given, the web browsing software application will connect to the server and will download the update file automatically. Further, the web browsing software application will install the security update once the Firefox web browsing software application is restarted. As far as installation of security updates are concerned, the procedure is not dissimilar to the procedure of the installation of any Firefox extension.

Although some critics of the Firefox web browsing software application may dismiss it as a very minor thing, the level of integration of the Firefox web browsing software application with the operating system and advantages that follow from the minimal integration with the operating system are clearly seen when the Firefox extension or the update for the Firefox web browsing software application are installed. If at all one were to install any security update for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, the effects of integration of the web browser with the operating system would be obvious. Of course, the end user of the web browsing software application is never informed specifically that the web browsing software application is being applied a security patch. All the security updates are downloaded by the Windows operating system itself and the relevant ones are installed into the web browsing software application. That is to say, the end user of the web browsing software application has to manually determine which security update applies to the web browsing software application and which security update refers to the operating system. In case of the Firefox web browsing software application, there is absolutely no confusion in this regard. Any and every security update of the web browsing software application is informed to the end user by the web browser. It is Mozilla Firefox that informs the end user, it is the Firefox web browsing software application that download the setup file and it is the Firefox web browser that completes the installation process. That is not the case with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. In case of the other web browsing software application, it is the operating system that performs all the functions as far as such download and update of the web browsing software application is concerned. Coming back to the issue of integration of the Firefox web browsing software application with the operating system, the end user need not restart the Operating system after installing the Firefox extension or the security update in the Firefox web browser. All the end user needs to do is restart the web browsing software application itself. When the web browsing software application is restarted, all the changes made to the configuration of the web browser are completed and the end user can proceed with the work. However, in case of other web browsing software applications that are integrated with the operating system, the end users are forced to restart the operating system as a whole. In the event of any problem, it is operating system that will crash and not the web browsing software application. In the unlikely event of any Firefox extension hampering the functioning of the security update, it is the Firefox web browser that will stop functioning and not the operating system. All the end user has to do is start the Firefox web browser in the safe mode and remove the errant Firefox extension.
