Mozilla Firefox reintroduced open source software applications to the world!!!
Before Mozilla Firefox came along, people were the opinion that open source software applications are big and clunky software applications that are very difficult to use. Earlier, if people were shown the Mozilla Firefox web browsing software application and if they were allowed to experience the functioning of the Firefox web browser, nine out of ten persons would have been of the opinion that the Mozilla Firefox is a non open source software application.
There is no logical link between the belief that open source software applications are big, unwieldy, cumbersome and difficult to use software applications. It is there perhaps due to the fact that computer experts and software language programmers often perform tasks that are beyond the comprehension of the average computer user. Since the end user is not in a position to understand what the programmer is talking about, he simply presumes that the program must be the result of a very difficult and cumbersome process.
That is why, when somebody mentions that a software application is an open source software applications and that the source code of that software application is available for anybody to modify, people simply presume that such a software application will not be a good software application. People are of the opinion that open source software applications have their code altered a lot. The general perception among the people is that the source code of a software application is a very sacred thing. To tamper with the source code of the software application can mean only two things One, the software application is not working properly, or Two, the only way to make the software application work properly is to keep tampering with the source code.
Both the perceptions make the people very wary of open source software applications.
Happily, Mozilla Firefox has dispelled that notion. After Mozilla Firefox was released and after Mozilla Firefox became popular, people were left wondering what the big fuss about open source software applications was all about. People understood that just as certain software applications are non open source software applications, just as certain software applications do not have their source code available for the public, there are certain software applications that offer the source code to all and sundry. People understood that just because a software application is an open source software application does not mean that it is necessarily a bad software application or a badly functioning software application. After Mozilla Firefox became popular, people were more generous in their assessment of open source software applications. They were ready to give it a try before passing any hasty conclusion about the same.
Considering the fact that a large number of modifications and alterations of the Firefox web browser are available on the internet, more and more people prefer the open source web browser i.e. Firefox!!!
In case of non open source software applications, the only persons who can make modifications in the source code to alter the functioning and features of the software applications are the persons who own the source code. In case of open source software application, any person knowledgeable enough in computer programming language can make the necessary changes. Hence, if a majority of the end users are of the opinion that a particular feature of a software application is not conducive for the operation of the software application, it is a lot easier to make modifications in the source code if the software application is an open source software application.
Today, there is a lot of information related to modifications of the Firefox web browser available on the internet today. Not all of it has been made available by the developers of Mozilla Firefox themselves. People have begun to realize that the open source software applications are easier to customize.
