Is Mozilla the safest web browser? Statistics say so? What about the bigger picture?
Today, if you ask any user of web browsing software applications to name a safe web browser, if you ask any user of web browsing software applications to a name a web browsing software application that offer the maximum security, there is no doubt that the user will point towards Mozilla Firefox.
However, before you become very happy and proud that your favorite Mozilla Firefox enjoys such a reputation, you have to keep in mind that the whole concept of safety of the web browsing software application is a relative concept.
Today, the majority of the users of web browsing software applications find Mozilla Firefox as the safest web browsing software application because Microsoft's Internet Explorer is very weak on the security aspects. It would not be incorrect to say that the very design of Microsoft's Internet Explorer is such that the possibility of hackers gaining control of the computers through the web browsing software application is very high.
Hence, we have to always keep in mind that Mozilla Firefox is a very safe web browsing software application only when compared to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. This approach begs the most obvious question- If you leave Microsoft's Internet Explorer out of the picture, would Mozilla Firefox be classified as a safe web browsing software application or not?
Well, if Microsoft's Internet Explorer is taken out of the picture, there is no doubt that Mozilla Firefox will be called a safe web browsing software application. However, the only difference will be that Mozilla Firefox will no longer enjoy the status of being the safest web browsing software application around.
In absolute terms, Mozilla Firefox is better than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer but only just. You may disagree with me and may be of the opinion that I am talking out of the hat. You may quote statistics to prove that Mozilla Firefox is a safe web browsing software application- relatively or absolutely. However, keep in mind that statistics tell only half the story
