Search bar in Firefox
The search bar is nothing but a text bar that is located at the top right corner of Firefox window. With Firefox's search bar, you can use popular search engines without visiting their websites. When any term is entered in search bar, the search engine indicated in search bar is queried and search results are shown in Firefox browser. In navigation toolbar, search engine is shown in far right corner.
To use search engine that is indicated in search bar, you will have to type a term in search bar and then press enter. Search results are then displayed.
Removing or moving search bar: You can remove or move the search bar by simply customizing the toolbar.
Included Search engines: Firefox includes following search engines by default, each one is suited to a particular type of search.
Google to search web via Google
Yahoo to search web via Yahoo
Amazon.com to search Amazon.com retail site
Answers.com to search Answers.com encyclopedia and online dictionary
Creative commons to look for documents, images and other media that is available for reproduction
eBay to look up for auction or sale at eBay
Switching search engines: The name of active search engine is always listed in search bar and you can identify it by small icon. So if you want to change active search engine then you will have to click down the arrow that is next to search engine's icon and then choose a new search engine.
Managing search engines: Through search engines manager, it is possible to download additional search engines for the browser. You may go for additional search engines if you are looking for some specific type of content that include encyclopedia articles, song lyrics or recipes. To open search engines manager, you will have to click on search engine icon and then choose manage search engines.
Adding search engines:
Through search engines manager: In search engine manager, it is possible to add a new search engine that has been released.
1] For opening search engines manager, you will have to click on search engine icon and then choose manage search engines.
2] For adding a search engine, you will have to click on 'Get more search engines Button’. The Mozilla Firefox Add-ons Search engines page is shown.
3] For adding one of the search engines that is displayed, click on 'Add to Firefox'. The 'Add Search Engine' dialog box is displayed.
4] To start using search engine immediately just after adding it, you should press 'Start using it right away'
5] For adding selected search engine, click on 'Add' button.
6] The search engine is available now through search engines list in search bar.
There are some websites that provide search engines that can be added to Firefox browser. However these search engines are site specific engines.
1] For instance when you access 'YouTube' website then the search engine will acquire a blue glow. It indicates that the website is offering a search engine that you can install in Firefox.
2] For adding site specific engine, you will have to open search engine list and then choose Add “You Tube Video Search”.
3] The search engine will appear in search engines list.
How to remove a search engine:
1] Click on search engine icon and then choose 'Manage search engines' for opening search engines manager
2] To remove any search engine from the list, you will have to select that search engine from the list and then click on 'remove' button.
3] If you delete the default search engine accidentally but want to recover it , you should click on 'Restore defaults'.
