Installing Firefox browser on Mac
Firefox is a new browser developed by Mozilla and is loaded with amazing features that sets it apart from other browsers. If you have decided to install Firefox window, ensure that your computer meets system requirements. If your machine has MAC operating system then the minimum hardware requirements are as follows:
1. Macintosh computer with Intel x86 or else PowerPC G4, G3 or G5 processor
2. Although 128 megabyte of RAM is the minimum requirement, recommended is 256 MB of RAM or greater
3. 200 MB of hard drive space.
If all the above minimum requirements are met by your machine then the Firefox browser will work but it will not work at its best. So if you want to make full use of this new innovative software then you should go for the recommended configuration. If your computer does not meet these requirements then you must download latest update version of Firefox 2
Installing the browser on Mac: In order to install the browser, you have to first visit 'Firefox download page. It automatically detects the language and platform on your computer and will recommend the best version of Firefox browser for you. If you wish to download another version of Firefox then you should click “Other Systems and Languages” to view the list of other versions available
Download disk image which is a dmg file on your desktop. Once the downloading process completes, the disk image opens by itself. Mount new volume that contains Firefox application. In case if you don't see new volume then double click Firefox dmg icon in order to open it. When you will click the dmg icon, a window will appear that contains license agreement terms.
So if you have no objection regarding the license agreement terms then click on Accept button. If you click on decline button that means you are not accepting the agreement terms of using Firefox. In that case the installation process will discontinue and you won't be able to install Firefox. It is necessary to agree with the terms and conditions that are put forth by the Firefox developers.
A finder window will appear containing Firefox application. You should then drag Firefox icon into applications folder. After you drag the Firefox icon into Applications, eject disk image by simply selecting it in Finder window. After you select it, you have to press command E keys or use Finder's File Eject.
If Firefox disk image does not eject then it is probably due to Leopard bug that is not allowing disk ejection. This problem will occur when you copy files from one drive and paste it into another file. One solution to this problem is by ejecting the disk image via Disk utility. Now the Firefox browser is ready for use. So to start Firefox, all you have to do is click the applications folder and then double click on the Firefox.
If you are using leopard then you are notified that you have downloaded Firefox browser from the internet. As you have downloaded Firefox browser from official site then you can click on 'Open button. When you start Firefox for the first time, it won't be your default browser. A message window will appear telling that Firefox is currently not set as the system's default browser. It will also ask whether you want to make Firefox as your default browser. If you wish to make Firefox as your default browser then you will have to click on 'Yes' button. If you just want to give it a try and have not yet decided whether to use it or not then click the 'No' button.
