How to make use of download manager in Firefox
Many improvements and enhancements have been made in Firefox 3. So the new version of Firefox 3 is smarter, safer and faster than ever before. With dozens of new innovative features including one click bookmarking and smart location, Firefox has been the first choice for many.
The download manager of Firefox is indeed a very useful feature in Firefox. It allows you to track, resume and pause the process of downloading files which you have accessed from the internet. When you choose a file from the internet in order to download it, through the browser, download manager automatically opens.
With the download manager, you can easily track the progress of your download. After the file is downloaded, the download manager keeps a record of the file until it is removed. For opening download manager whenever you want, perform any one of the following steps.
On the menu, located at the top of Firefox window, choose the Tools menu. You have to then select 'Downloads' option. The download manager can also be opened by simply pressing Ctrl + Y
Using download manager you can easily resume and pause downloads. At any time, if needed, it is possible to pause a download that is in progress. For instance, suppose you want to download 2 files and have already started downloading the bigger file. You can pause the download and instead download the smaller file first. You can resume the download of the larger one after completing other tasks. Partially downloaded files are discarded if you close Firefox. For restoring these files, you will have to again download them.
To resume and pause a download
1] In download manager, choose the download that is in progress which you want to pause
2] Click the pause link that is under it
3] For resuming the download, click on resume link that is in download manager
Open a Download
1] When a downloading process is complete, an open link will appear in download manager that is next to file's entry
2] If you want to open the downloaded file, click on 'Open' link
3] The file opens in default application as specified by your OS.
With the download manager, it is also possible to retry or cancel the download. In case you don't want a file whose download is in progress then you should click on 'Cancel link' in order to stop the download. The canceled download is then listed in Download manager. The download manager also allows to again start a failed or canceled download. In order to restart a failed or canceled download from the very beginning, you will have to click on retry link.
Removing a file from Download manager: In order to remove any file's entry, from download manager, all you have to do is click on remove link. Many think that once the file is removed from download manager, it is deleted from your system. This is not the case. Removing any file from download manager doesn't mean the file is removed from the system. You should delete that file through operating system. Make it a point to delete items in download manager whenever you have time and don't require these items. In order to remove the listed items from download manager click on clean up button.
Open the folder which contains a download: If you have downloaded a file but are not able to locate the folder where you have saved your downloaded file then there is no need to worry as download manager will help you to find your folder.
