Development of the Alpha, Beta & RC versions of Firefox
The versions of Firefox are separated according to the roadmap of the Mozilla Organization. Therefore, the release of these versions is one part of the development of the Firefox Roadmap. So the information related to the browser name, Gecko version, version types, codenames, releasing dates of the versions & relevant changes in those versions are the important factors of this Firefox roadmap. In this article, we are going to discuss the developments of the Alpha, Beta & RC versions of Firefox web browser through this Firefox Roadmap.
The first version of the Alpha release of the Mozilla Firefox is the version 1.1a1 which has a code name called as Deer Park Alpha1. This version was released by the Mozilla.
Organization on May 31, 2005. This version also gets a support of the Gecko layout engine having version1.8. In this version, there is assistance for the SVG & canvas. In this version, there is advancement of the programming language like JavaScript 1.5 & advancement for CSS2/3.
The next version of Alpha 2 range is the version 1.1a2 which has a code name called as Deer Park Alpha 2 & this version was released by the Mozilla Organization on July 12, 2005. This version also has a support of the Gecko layout engine having version 1.8. This version has relevant type of features like speedy backwards & forwards which is also called as FastBack, reordering of tabs through drag & drop, improvement in the pop-up blocking. Also in this version, there is a provision of the replacement of the error dialogs by error pages.
Currently there is the release of the Firefox 3 Beta 1 version of the Mozilla Firefox that is the latest advanced version of the Firefox. However, this beta release with Firefox had started from its first release with Firefox 1.5.
So the first beta release of the Mozilla Firefox was released by the Mozilla Organization on July 12, 20076. This version is also called as Mozilla Firefox 2.0b1 having a codename called as Firefox 2.0 Beta1. This version has support from the Gecko layout engine having version 1.8.1. In this version, there is the inclusion of the advanced NSIS based installer, also inclusion of the JavaScript having version 1.7. In this version, there is the improved security & assistance of localization for extensions.
The second beta version of the Mozilla Firefox 2.0 is the version 2.0b2. This version has a code name called as Firefox 2 Beta 2 & it is supported by the Gecko layout engine having version 1.8.1. This second release of second version of Firefox was released by the Mozilla Organization on August 31, 2006.
This version includes some relevant changes like inventive Winstripe theme. In addition, there is the inclusion of newly navigation icons in this version. The New Go button in this version is closed to the URL bar. There is the Refresh option for the function like Search bar & Tab bar in this version. The tabs button in this version is used to show a pop-up list of all open tabs.
After these two releases of beta version, there was the RC stage release of the Mozilla Firefox. All this three RC versions was released by the Mozilla Organization according to their releasing dates.
The first RC version has a code name called as Mozilla Firefox 2.0 RC 1 that was released by the Mozilla Organization on September 26, 2006 having a support of the Gecko layout engine version 1.8.1.
The second RC version has a code name called as Firefox 2.0 RC 2, which was released by the Mozilla Organization on October 6, 2006, & this version got a support of the Gecko layout engine having version1.8.1.The last release of the RC stage is the version having code name called as Firefox 2.0 RC 3 which was released by the Mozilla Organization on October 16, 2006 & like other versions, this version got a support of the Gecko version 1.8.1.
