Newer version of Firefox version 3 is released with more updates
For the past few months Firefox was planning to launch a new version i.e. the version 3. In this new version it wanted to provide the users added security and functionality. However there were some technical difficulties in doing so and this is what was awaiting it for so long. But Firefox cleared all such technical difficulties and finally released the new version.
The appearance of this new version is more for less similar to he previous one, however it has several advancements over the previous versions. Even with all these advancements, this new version as well is an open source product. Thus it is can be an even greater thread to Microsoft's market share as it has many added functionalities.
Firefox 3 has a number of improvements over the previous versions. It offers much faster and better performance, especially for the tasks like memory handling. Also some useful tools like the Smart location bar have been added in the version 3. this location bar allows you to enter words rather than the complicated web addresses, when you search for websites.
It seems that the prime focus of Firefox org while developing this new version was on the security of the users. The new version really does provide effective protection to you. So you can browse through the web without any worry. Whenever you attempt access a webpage, which has been reported to contain malware. It has much more security features than any other web browser, which is in the market at this moment.
Apart from this there are many other useful features as well. For example the feature named offline data access, is helpful in making the web applications usable, even in case of unavailability of network. There is a feature called the full page zoom, which allows you to use greater space of the screen while viewing the web pages. Then there is a start button which is useful for adding bookmarks. Just click on this button once and then confirm to bookmark the site.
The release of Firefox set a new world record, regarding the downloads in a single day. Mozilla Org said that the number of downloads exceeded 8 million.
This was expected by Mozilla, and therefore it recorded the downloads between a 24 hour period from 11.16 am on the day it was released to the same time the next day. Mozilla is waiting for this to be entered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
During the 24 hour time, the download rate had picked up to 14,000 per minute. This was on Tuesday, and even at Wednesday morning the rate was as high as 6,000 per minute. Though a large number of these downloads were by the pre users i.e. the users using the earlier versions of Firefox, even some users using the other browsers have downloaded this new version.
Due to this Firefox's share in the market is expected to get increased. At this moment the market share of Mozilla Firefox is something more than 4%. the downloads have not stopped yet, and more and more people will continue downloading it, as they come to know about its features and advantages. This is definitely going to affect the share of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
In any case the fact that 8.3 million people downloaded Firefox 3 within 24 hours of its release indicates how popular it is among the users. Moreover, the attention that was drawn by its release, shows that it is a movement, which people are associated with. Thus it is a community in itself, which contains millions of people world wide and this number is growing by the day.
