Mozilla released Firefox browser as non-profit making software in 2004, which was result of thousands of programmer’s hard work. Within a year many volunteers from around the globe made huge contribution with enhancing existing functionality. Volunteers also got engaged with the management planning as it was entirely open source project. Developers and contributors together expanded the scope of project and every one who was involved was passionate for creating free software, which will help people to choice how to experience the Internet. After several years of hard work Mozilla Firebox’s first version was released. At that time over 90% of Internet users were using Internet Explorer. Not many people noticed Firefox in first few months but soon it got popularity with youngsters and developers.
After release it has become a huge success as less than one year, 100 million people downloaded Firefox and since then they have managed to keep setting new records. In 2008, Firefox reached 20% worldwide market share and improved internet experience for everyone. Within ten years the source code has been used with commercial organizations, as it can be easily collaborate with other projects. The web services and other code are transparent and open that anyone can understand easily. Mozilla Firefox community is well aware of the fact that internet is not going to be safe as earlier therefore they have included many security options to the browser. It was marketed very well to sustain in the competition with special group of people dedicated only for advertisement.
Most used functionality of Firefox is tabbed browsing, which enables user to multi-window browsing. When you open new link you can continue reading other page while the linked page loads. This is unlike opening new browser window that requires more time. Sometimes, you may accidentally close tab which you need. You can reload the tab by “undo” functionality. You can block windows that gets open automatically and hard to close. You will get options for resizing and focusing window settings. New window get opened very quickly as well as file downloading is also faster than other browser. You can save video clips by giving thumbnail to video. User can save video in the browser window or Download section of Firefox. Alike other browsers before setting any image as wallpaper it ask user. Movies are displayed with QuickTime plug-in. If you are not using Firefox until now take a test drive for week or so. After few days you will come to know that it can beat any other browser available and definitely wish to switch to Firefox. You can download entire site while doing desktop work and once downloading is completed you can browse without disturbance.
One of the best functionality of Firefox is you can view the last time used sites. While closing browser it will ask user whether you want to save the tabs or want to quit. If you save the web pages then next time when you open the browser previously visited websites get opened automatically in respective tabs. This even work when you don’t shut down browser normally. However, it takes little time while shutting down. Don’t reopen in short time wait for few minutes and then reopen it.
