Session restore in Firefox

Is it possible to configure Firefox browser to restore all tabs and windows that were opened when the application closed unexpectedly?

Well, you will be glad to know that the answer to this question is 'yes'. You can configure Firefox to restore whatever windows you had opened before Firefox crashed unexpectedly.

When session restore is possible:

Software Crash: Because of unexpected issues like software errors, sudden loss of power, or problems with the website, Firefox can close unexpectedly. In such situations, Firefox will restore the web pages that you had visited before. So if you want to restore these web pages then do the following steps:

1] When Firefox is reopened with all tabs and windows that were shown when the browser is crashed; you have to click on restore session button. If the browser continues to give problems when tabs and windows are reopened then you should open Firefox without restoring the items. Click on start new session button.

After installing Add-on: When any new theme or extension is installed it is necessary to restart Firefox browser. This is the only way, you can enable the add-on. If you do not restart the browser then the add-on will remain disabled. To restart Firefox, you have to click on restart Firefox button. All tabs and windows will be reopened when the browser restarts and installs new add-on.

After Software update: For applying any updates to Firefox application that you have downloaded, it is essential to restart Firefox browser. To restart the browser, you have to click on restart Firefox browser.

Configuring Session restore: When you launch Firefox browser, by default, a single window opens, showing the specified home page. If you want, you can also configure Firefox browser to open all tabs and windows from previous session. If you wish to configure session restore, you have to perform the following steps:

1] At the top of Firefox window, there is a tools menu. You have to click on tools menu and then choose 'options'.

2] Now select main panel

3] From when Firefox browser starts drop down, you have to choose 'Show my tabs and windows from last time.

4] Click on OK button.

A very important thing to note that when you enable restore session feature, it is essential to close Firefox browser through the menu. When each window is closed at a time, only tabs in final window which you close are again opened when you restart the Firefox.

Privacy issues: Session restore can keep you logged into the websites that you had logged before you closed the browser. If someone else uses your machine after you have used it, then that person can get to know the details of your account on these websites. If this is your concern, you shouldn't configure Mozilla Firefox application to open all tabs and windows from previous session. You should deselect “ Show all my tabs and windows from last time”. The session restore recovery feature can be disabled if you want. By default, this feature is disabled. When you disable this feature, it will not restore a previous session when you open the browser after software crashes.

In location bar, you need to type about:config and then press enter. The about:config warning page will appear. Just click on “I will be very careful, I promise! And continue to about:config page.

2] Find browser.sessionstore.resume_from _crash in the list.

3] Now you have to double click on browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash and set it to false.
