Opening PDF files using Firefox

The Adobe Reader plug in is used for displaying PDF files inside Firefox browser window. The Adobe reader is a very useful program that will enable you to review and print PDF documents. If you are not sure whether Firefox will be able to download and view PDF files then you should download Adobe Reader. So if you want to install the recent edition of adobe reader then visit the site Adobe.com. Using Adobe reader, you can view PDFs in Firefox window. With Adobe Reader, opening PDF files within the Firefox window will become an easy task.

If there's a problem with plugin, it might not open the file. If you are trying to view a PDF file then Firefox browser may instead try to download the browser. This problem can be fixed by executing some troubleshooting methods.

Check the Firefox settings

1] At the top of Firefox window, there is edit menu. Click on this menu and then select Preferences.

2] Click on the content icon

3] Next to the 'File Types' you have to click on 'Manage...' to bring Download Actions window

4] Click on PDF extension that is in the list. You have to then click Change Action to bring the handler option.

5] Click on the radio button that is next to the 'Use this plugin. You will see Adobe Acrobat in the field.

If Adobe Acrobat wasn't listed by 'use this plugin' then Close the Firefox browser. Navigate to Firefox profile folder, Delete mimetypes.rdf file, and Restart Firefox browser and retry these instructions

6. Click on OK button for closing Change Action window. You have to then click on 'close' button to close Download Actions window. Finally, you should click the OK button for closing Firefox Preferences window. Now try viewing a PDF file in Firefox browser. Now if it opens in browser window, then the problem is indeed solved. If it is not opening, continue with the instructions given below:

Check the Adobe Reader settings

Open the Adobe Reader. Once you are in Adobe Reader, click on the edit menu that is in menu bar and then you have to click on preferences. After clicking 'preferences', the preference window opens. In Categories section, you have to click on Internet. Ensure that first check box “Display PDF in browser” is checked. Click on OK button to dismiss this Window. You have to close the Adobe Reader. Now try viewing a PDF file in Firefox browser. Now if it opens in browser window, then the problem is indeed solved. If it is not solved, continue with the instructions given below:tppp.

Reinitialize plugins database

Reinitializing plugins database can fix this problem. This will force the Firefox browser to rebuild its plugins database.

From the menu that is located at the top of Firefox window, you have to select File option and then choose 'Quit menu item'.

Open the Firefox profile folder

Delete pluginreg.dat file

pOpen the Firefox browser

In location bar enter about:plugins and then press Enter button, to bring Firefox plugins list. Now try viewing a PDF file in Firefox browser. Now if it opens in browser window, then the problem is indeed solved. You may have to repeat the above steps after executing this step.

You can also reinstall Adobe Reader. Make sure you know the installation instructions. Before reinstalling Adobe Reader plugin, it is necessary to uninstall all its previous versions that are already installed on your system. If now you are able to view PDF files then you have a choice of downloading PDFs or view the files in the browser.
