Once this is done, you should double-click on browser.chrome.site_icons. This preference should also be set at false. Once these two preferences are set to false, the favicons shall no longer be seen on your address bar.
In the event you find it necessary to get your favicons back, simply go back to the about:config page and undo the changes that have been made.
