Live Bookmarks in Firefox
If you are checking specific websites regularly for new content, you can make use of Live Bookmarks so that you get the most recent updates without actually visiting the website. Note that live bookmarks will work only with websites that provide web feeds. When a website offers a web feed, you can make use of Firefox for subscribing to it as Live Bookmark. Every hour Firefox verifies your live bookmarks for updates that enable you to gain knowledge of most recent information from your site. Live Bookmarks easily work with web feed that is in RSS, Atom or RDF format. They will not work if the web feed is in Atom or RSS format.
Automatic discovery of web feeds: When Firefox comes to know that, a feed is associated with a web page that you are visiting then an orange icon will appear automatically in location bar. For reviewing and subscribing to web site's feed, you have to click on orange feed icon. A set of feeds available from the site is displayed. For subscribing to any of the listed feed, you have to click on its name. When a feed is selected, you can also preview its recent content to know whether it contains any useful information.
For adding the feed as Live Bookmark, you have to choose Live bookmarks from 'Subscribe to this feed' with the help of list. You have to then click on 'Subscribe Now'. Firefox will allow to use other feed readers that include My Yahoo!, Blog lines and Google. For subscribing to web feed by using any of the above-mentioned readers, you have to choose it from 'Subscribe to this feed using' list.
If you have subscribed using Live Bookmarks of Firefox then 'add live bookmark' dialog box will appear.
Name: Enter the name of your choice, to refer to feed as it appears in your bookmarks Create in; Select the location where you wish to save the bookmark.
Click on add button. Now you are subscribed to feed through Live Bookmark. These live bookmarks are always placed in same structure as any other bookmark.
How to manually add a Live Bookmark: There are some websites where you have to have to subscribe to their web feeds manually. Therefore, if you know web address of the feed that you want to subscribe then you should add it as Live Bookmark. For manually adding any Live bookmark do the following:
p1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on Bookmarks menu and then choose 'Organize Bookmarks'. Bookmarks manager window will open.2] In Bookmarks manager, you have to click on File menu and then choose 'New live Bookmark'
In properties for “New Live Bookmark”, you have to enter the name for live bookmark. You also have to paste or type the address of feed. Although the description field is optional, it should be used to give helpful identification of the feed
3] Click on OK button. The Live Bookmark is then created. After you create a live bookmark, it is also possible to move it to another location using Bookmarks manager.
Using Live Bookmarks: Live Bookmarks can be identified by web feed icon that is next to bookmark's name.
1] To use Live Bookmark, you have to select and then view the recent items from the web feed.
2] For viewing a page from the web feed, you need to select the item in bookmark. For viewing all listed items in feed, you have to choose 'Open all in the tabs'. Each item will then open in separate tab in current window.
