Installing Firefox
Before installing Firefox on your computer, you should ensure that your pc meets all the system requirements. If the new version of Mozilla Firefox (Firefox 3) is installed on Windows 95 or 98, then it will not work. However, older versions of Firefox do work with these operating systems. For Firefox 3 the recommended operating systems are Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, and Windows server 2003.
Hardware Configuration: CPU having a speed of 500 MHz or greater is recommended. Although 64 MB of RAM is the minimum requirement, the recommended RAM size is 128 MB or greater. A hard drive space of 52 MB is also needed. For optimum functionality, you should strictly follow the recommended configuration.
For Linux operating system, software requirements are as follows: Mozilla Firefox will not operate at all without the packages or libraries mentioned below. GTK 2.10 or higher, Pango 1.14 or higher, Glib 2.12 or higher, X.Org 1.0 or higher.
For optimum functionality following packages or libraries are recommended. Network Manager 0.7 or higher, HAL 0.5.8 or higher and GNOME 2.16 or higher.
For Mac operating system, the minimum hardware requirement is a Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3 or G5 or an Intel X86processor. Other requirements include 200 MB of hard drive space and 128 MB of RAM.
So if you want to install Firefox on Windows, access the Firefox download page. It automatically detects the language and platform on your computer and recommends the best edition of Mozilla Firefox for you. If you are interested in downloading another version of Mozilla Firefox, you should select “Other Systems and Languages” and you will be able to view a list of other versions available.
Before downloading the file on your computer, you should shut down all other running programs. When you double click the file, the Mozilla Firefox installing wizard starts. A welcome screen is displayed. Click the next button to continue. Very carefully go through the license agreement terms. If you have no objection to the terms of agreement then check mark, the option “I accept the terms in License agreement and click 'Next'. If you are not accepting the terms then you simply cannot continue further with the installation process and you won't be able to install Firefox.
When you click the next button, the Firefox set up dialog box appears. In this dialog, you have to choose any one set up option. Select the standard set up type, as you will be able install Firefox with most common configuration.
You can then check mark the option “Use Firefox as my default browser if you wish to use Firefox browser when you open a HTML document, an internet shortcut, or a link in your application. The set up will then start. In this process, the files are copied to your computer. It will take only a few minutes. When all files are copied, you can now the close setup wizard. For doing this, you will have to click the Finish button. If you now checkmark the 'Launch Firefox now' checkbox, Mozilla Firefox starts immediately for the first time when you select the finish button.
Installing Firefox on Linux (Fedora 8): Click Applications menu and then select Add/Remove software. The operating system then asks for the root password. Enter your root password and then press OK. Select the search tab. Type Firefox in the search bar. Find entry for Mozilla Firefox and then checkmark its checkbox. Press the apply button in the lower right corner. You can now launch the Firefox by simply opening the Applications menu and then clicking the internet icon.
