Feed and private Preferences in Firefox
Feeds are formatted documents that summarize content of various websites. For instance a feed can summarize the recent news headlines from news website. It can also summarize the latest posts that are on a blog. It is also possible to see the contents of feeds in the Firefox browser. You can also create bookmarks for them as well as add them to feed reader on the Web or on your computer. The preference that is in this pane determines what Firefox should do when you view any feed.
Display me a preview and then ask me which Feed Reader to use: When you try to view a feed within the Firefox then a preview of feed, contents are shown. When you select this preference, you are given an option of what would you want to use for subscribing to the feed.
Subscribe to feed using: If you don't want to see the preview of feed and wish to open it directly in feed reader then you have to select a reader from the list that contains available readers. You have a choice to make use of an application on your machine to subscribe to feeds by simply clicking 'choose application' button. You will then find the application on your machine. An alternative way is to select to automatically subscribe to the feeds. For doing this, you will have to save them as Live Bookmarks. For choosing subscription method, choose it from the list.
Privacy Preferences:
History: Remember the visited pages for the last... days: This preference allows you to specify how long Firefox should remember the web pages that you have visited. The default entry is 9 days.
Remember what I enter in search bar and forms: When you enter any data in search bar or web forms that data is saved. Using this saved information; Firefox browser can give suggestions the next time you enter information in these web forms. You will have to uncheck this preference if you want to stop this kind of behavior.
Remember what I have downloaded: With the help of this preference, you can control whether the past download should be displayed in Downloads window. To access the download window, access Tools menu or press Ctrl + Y. The download window will show a list of recent downloads. You will be able to view download preferences in Main panel.
Cookies: Cookies are files created by websites that store data on your machine. Information such as website specific preferences when you are visiting that site is stored.
Accept cookies from websites: Cookies are enabled by default. Uncheck this preference in order to disable use of cookies. However, some websites will not work properly if cookies are disabled.
Keep until they expire: This is a default preference. When you set this preference, it will allow any website to specify the amount of time the cookie will remain on your machine. This will help a website to remember your login information and preferences across browser sessions.
I close Firefox: If this preference is selected the browser will remove all the stored cookies when it is closed.
Ask me every time: If you enable this preference, Firefox will ask the amount of time, you want to store a cookie on your computer.
To control which websites may not or may set cookies, you will have to click 'Exceptions' button. For displaying Cookie manager, you will have to click on 'Show cookies... You can easily gain control over the sites that can store cookies on your machine. In short, you should have knowledge about managing cookies.
