The Bookmarks feature will now give way to the Places feature in Mozilla Firefox
The latest Alpha release of the Firefox web browsing software application is showing a new and improved Bookmarks feature in the web browsing software application. It is important to note that the Bookmarks feature in the Firefox web browsing software application has not undergone any major changes or revision in the recent past.
Now that we come to think of it, not even the Favorites feature in the Internet Explorer web browsing software application has undergone a revision in the past. The feature that was offered a few years ago continues to be offered to the end users.
The World Wide Web has drastically changed in the past few years and it is but natural that the expectations of the end users from the Bookmarks feature in the web browsing software application would have changed as well. Of course, the end users of the Firefox web browsing software applications have the fantastic advantage of the Firefox extension feature.
They can always make use of the Firefox extension feature to download and install bookmarks centric Firefox extensions which would help the end user to extract more from the web browsing software application. However, the developers of the Firefox web browsing software application realize that the time for a comprehensive review of the web browser has come and that the web browsing software application ought to offer a new and improved Bookmarks feature to the end users.
That is the reason why the Alpha version of version 3.0 of the Firefox web browsing software application offers the Places feature. The ‘Places’ feature is going to replace the ‘Bookmarks’ feature in the web browsing software application. A look at the Places feature is more than sufficient for the end users to realize the extent to which the Bookmarks feature has become outdated and antiquated.
The Bookmarks feature was based on the Favorites feature in the Internet Explorer web browsing software application and was created in a world where the end users of the web browsing software application wanted to store their Favorites in the web browsing software application itself. However, we all know that the same is not the case anymore.
The end users of the web browsing software application are no longer keen on storing their Bookmarks in the computers itself. They have absolutely no problem in sharing their Bookmarks over the internet with other end users of the web browsing software application.
Now this minor decision on the part of the end users has made a huge difference into the popularity of the Bookmarks feature and the utility of the Bookmarks feature. Now, the end users will not be satisfied the with a web browsing software application that enables them to store a link or web page as a bookmark in the web browsing software application.
Rather, the end users of the web browsing software application would be interested in sharing the Bookmarks over the internet. As on date, no browser offers an inbuilt feature that helps the end users share the Bookmarks with other surfers of the internet.
Needless to say, the absence of such a feature in the web browsing software application is going to leave the web browsing experience of the end user incomplete. Now, this is one thing that the developers of the Firefox web browsing software applications are simply not ready to tolerate.
The end users of the Firefox web browsing software application are not ready to tolerate the possibility of the web browsing experience of the end users remaining incomplete and unsatisfactory. That is the primary motivation behind the incorporation of the new Places feature in the Firefox web browser.
