Success of Mozilla Firefox has forced the web developers on the back foot

The success of the Firefox web browsing software application has caused a lot of problems for the developers of websites. Earlier, when the Microsoft’s Internet Explorer web browsing software application was the dominant web browsing software application in the World Wide Web, the developers had to cater to just one segment of end users. As far as the developers of the web sites were concerned, no other segment existed. However, the Firefox web browsing software application took the World Wide Web by a storm and changed the way the game was played. When the Firefox web browsing software application was first introduced, the developers of websites did not bother to accommodate the Firefox web browsing software application in the scheme of things.

The developers of the web sites simply presumed that the total number of end users of the Firefox web browsing software application would never constitute a significant figure. The developers of the web sites simply presumed that they would never have to make an effort to specifically connect to the end users of the Firefox web browsing software application. The developers of websites were proved wrong on both counts. The Firefox web browsing software application went on to become a roaring success and the total number of end users of the Firefox web browsing software application grew so rapidly that the developers of web sites could no longer ignore them.

The developers of the web sites discovered that ignoring the Firefox web browsing software application would result in a significant fall in the total number of visitors to the web sites. The developers of the websites hoped that their web pages would be rendered correctly on the Firefox web browsing software applications as well just as they had been the rendered correctly on the Internet Explorer web browsing software application. However, that was not to be. The Firefox web browsing software application and the Internet Explorer web browsing software application work on different assumptions and different rules. Hoping that a web page should be rendered correctly on both the web browsing software applications without any modifications whatsoever is not feasible.

Expecting a web page to be rendered correctly on both the web browsing software applications is to expect an object to be visible to the eyes of the individual in a room filled with light and in a room with no light at all. The functioning of Mozilla Firefox is very different as compared to Internet Explorer and the developers of websites discovered that one had to make modifications or customizations to web pages to ensure that the web pages were rendered correctly on both web browsing software applications.

Of course, very few web pages are rendered identically on the two web browsing software applications. If you set up a particular web site or a particular web page using the Internet Explorer web browsing software application and if you were to visit the same web page using the Mozilla Firefox web browsing software application, you would discover differences in the way the two web pages have been rendered. That is to say, the end users would never see the same web page being rendered in the same manner when using different web browsing software applications. This compelled the developers of the web sites to make changes in their plans and forced them to bring improvement in the way web pages were rendered in web browsing software applications.

While this meant additional work for developers of websites, the end users stood to gain as this meant better looking websites. This is yet another benefit that has accrued to the end users due to the Firefox web browser.
