Password manager in Firefox

Password manager settings: By default Firefox remembers password. You can disable this feature or explicitly tell Firefox to not to remember password for a specific website.

1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on Tools menu and then choose 'Options'.

2] Select security panel

3] If it is not check marked already, you have to check” Remember passwords for websites”

4] On the right of this checkbox, there is an 'Exceptions... button. Click on it.

5] Ensure that the site that you are going to log in is not in the list. In case if it is in the list, select it and then click on remove button.

6] Click on close button

7] Click on OK button. Now Firefox is configured to remember passwords, try to log in to the website again.

Passwords cleared using 'Clear private data' feature of Firefox: Firefox's 'Clear private data' feature may be set to delete your passwords when Firefox window is closed.

1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on 'Tools' menu and then choose 'Options'.

2] Select 'Privacy' panel

3] If you don't select 'Always clear my private data when I close Firefox' then Firefox isn't set to delete your passwords when Firefox is closed. If you want you can also skip to next section.

4] Ensure that 'Saved passwords' isn't check marked.

5] Click on OK button

6] Firefox browser is now set to not to clear your passwords when you are closing.

Websites prohibit password saving: There are some websites such as banking and webmail sites that can tell your browser to not to save the password that you enter. You can always tell Firefox to remember your password by using 'Always remember password'. You should be very careful when you are entering password on a computer that is publicly accessible. In case you save your passwords, future internet users can definitely access it.

Cannot save or use passwords after you upgrade Firefox: If your password contains non-ASCII characters, a bug in Firefox browser 3.0.2 prevents the browser from remembering it.

Remembering passwords: Whenever you submit your password and username to a site, Firefox browser will always ask if you want the browser to remember your password and username.

To make Firefox browser to remember your password and username, click on 'remember' button. The next time when you visit the site, Firefox will automatically enter the password and username in appropriate location. To tell Firefox to never remember passwords for current website, you have to click on ' Never for this website'. Whenever you visit the site again, you will not be prompted to save password.

If you don't want to store your password and username for now, click on 'Not Now'. You will be prompted to store your password and username when you visit the website again.

Managing the stored Passwords: At any time, it is possible to review the passwords and user names that Firefox browser has saved.

1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on 'Tools' menu and then choose 'Options'.

2] Click on the security icon

3] Click on 'show passwords'

4] The passwords that you have stored are displayed in password manager.

For searching passwords in password manager, you have to enter the username or site in the box that is marked “search”. The search results show up automatically. For removing a password from password manager, you have to select password and then click on 'Remove' button. For removing all stored passwords from 'password manager' you have to click on 'Remove All' button. When you confirm that you wish to remove all your stored passwords then they are deleted.
