Mozilla Firefox – The name that you should remember, always!!!

The day Firefox 3 was released is also known in history as “Download Day2008” for Mozilla was aiming to set a record for maximum software downloads. About 8.2 million people downloaded the Firefox 3 on that day. Thus, Mozilla was able to set a world record. Mozilla Firefox's rival Microsoft, delivered a cake on the D-Day, congratulating Mozilla on the release of Firefox 3. When Firefox 3 was launched, the company's servers crashed under the weight of people trying to download the software. But within hours of its release, rumors of potentially dangerous vulnerabilities within Firefox 3 began circulating on the web.

Firefox 3 is based on the Gecko 1.9 platform and consists of nearly 2 million code changes. It is smarter, faster, and more secure than Firefox 2. Some newly added features of Firefox 3 are the smart folder, better tagging and bookmarking, add-ons etc. Firefox 3 is available as a free download at Firefox’s home page. Firefox 3provides a bookmark manager, download manager, password manager, pop up blocker, incremental finding, spell check facility, caret navigation, search engine toolbar, security options and per-site settings for cookies. However, Internet Explorer does not provide the download manager and spell check facility. The Firefox team put in almost two and a half years of work to bring Firefox to the masses. Firefox 3 is much faster than Firefox 2 and requires lesser memory also. Firefox is available in 45 languages including English, which is more than any other browser. For additional language, options just visit Firefox’s home page.

Following is a list of a few handy Add-ons:

The next release of Firefox 3 is tentatively called Firefox 3.1 and will probably be released by the end of this year. Features like the “awesome bar” and web development tools will be improved by then. All the features that were not ready during the release of Firefox 3 will be included in Firefox 4. Firefox 4 is definitely not going to be out this year. At the moment Mozilla is concentrating on two different projects: Prism and Weave. While Prism takes the user away from the Internet, Weave does exactly the opposite. Prism deals with WebApps running without the user being connected to the Internet i.e. running web content offline. Weave deals with synchronizing bookmarks, favorites to an online service the user can attach to when he or she fires the browser from any PC, laptop, or mobile. All the user preferences and favorites are stored in a new transactional database. Both Prism and Weave will be integrated with Firefox 4. These are just a hint of the crazy ideas that are going to be rolled out with the next version of Firefox.

If you are a generous surfer who likes to share a lot of stuff with people on the internet, then this add-on is definitely helpful for you. Mostly people share stuff over the internet by pasting the useful links for other people to copy. However, this is very boring. Shareaholic allows you to share bookmarks, web-pages, e-mails, etc. with social networking websites. It supports magnolia, Google bookmarks, kaboodle, myspace, facebook, reddit, twitter, bzzster, etc. and a host of other social networking sites. This extension will definitely save you a lot of time uploading webpages.
