How to keep a back up of personal data in Firefox
The sites that you bookmark, as well as the extensions and passwords are in a folder commonly referred as profile folder. Mozilla Firefox commonly uses profile folder to store your personal settings.Do you want to keep a back up of your profile or do you wish to move it to another location? ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/.
xxxxxxxx is a string consisting of 8 characters
So now if you are using Ubuntu operating system then to locate the folder just select “places menu”. This menu is located on top right of your screen. After clicking on view menu, select “Home folder”. File browser window will be seen.
Now choose “View” menu and simply click on “Show hidden files” You will see a folder that is marked .mozilla. Double click on this folder. You will also see a folder that is marked .firefox. All your profile folder will be inside this folder.
How to keep a back up of your profile?
Now, you will be very happy to know that it is extremely simple and not at all a difficult task to keep a back up of your profile folder For doing this easy task, perform the following steps
:1] You will see a menu that is situated at the top of your Firefox window. From the menu, you have select file option. Once you choose file option, select Quit menu option.
2] As told above, just find out your profile folder
3] When you right click on the profile folder, select “copy” option
4] Now right click on back up location such as CD-RW disc or a USB stick and then choose the paste option
What are the steps to restore a profile back up?
Well, restoring profile back up is very easy. Just implement 2 to 3 steps and you will get the desired result within no time. It is that simple. The steps are given below:
1] When you open the Firefox window, you have to choose the File option from the menu. On selecting the file option, you have to select Quit menu item.
2] It may happen that the name of your profile back up folder and existing profile folder is the same. In such a case, all you have to do is replace your profile folder with profile back up. Once you are done with it start Firefox
Keep one thing in mind. Ensure that your profile folder names will always match for this work including string of eight characters. It is possible that the names might not match or else, if you wish to restore your backup to some other location then perform the steps given below:
How to restore profile to some other location( different location)
1]Close down Firefox browser as explained above
2] Take the help of Firefox profile folder and you will be able to create new profile easily without any problem in the desired location. After completing the task, exit from profile manager
3] Find out the exact location of your backed up profile that is on the hard drive
4] Now you should copy all the contents of your old profile folder and store them into new profile folder
5] Now start Firefox
