Features of Firefox
Whether you are an advanced or an intermediate user or a beginner, these suggestions and shortcuts will definitely help you when using Firefox 3 browser.
Beginner
Zoom out and Zoom In: Are you tired of those tiny text? Want a closer view of the image? You can now zoom in and out of the Web pages. For zooming in, you have to press Ctrl+ “+”. For zooming out you have to press ctrl + “-”.
Intermediate:
Play tag: Now once you have build up a list of bookmarks, it becomes difficult to keep a track of them all. To stay organised, it is necessary to assign tags to the bookmarked sites. Double click on star icon and you will be asked to enter tags.
You can tag a website with many terms and easily find sites again by simply typing the tag into location bar. Ensure that you put comma between each and every tag. For instance when you type “travel” into location bar, it will bring all sites that you have been book marking.
Advanced: Go to Favourite sites directly. You can also add keywords to bookmarks for faster and easier access. From Library, you have to just add short keyword in keyword field. You can access the bookmark by typing the keyword into address bar. For instance, you could give del.icoio.us account “links” keyword. Therefore, the next time, you type “links” into address bar, it will directly take you there.
Learn about Add-ons: Firefox's standard version is loaded with features but you can always add features. There are approximately over 5000 Add-ons that can help you to customize Firefox. You can download these to enhance its features. To know about existing add-ons, you need to go to Tools and select 'Add-ons' option. Add-ons manager will open and you see the add-ons installed.
Search smarter: You are familiar with search bar, which is a built in feature in Firefox. However, do you know that you can customise the search bar with any of the search engines you desire? Click on icon that is on the left of search bar to view menu of default options.
Even a better option, click on manage search engines and rearrange the list. You can assign keyboard shortcuts and additional choices to your search engine. For example, you can give Google shortcut “G”. In case you wanted to perform a search on cookie recipes, type “G cookie recipes” in location bar and that would generate full list.
Find the word in a flash: 'Find as you enter feature is indeed a very useful timesaver. Instead of using “find” bar for searching a word on a web page, just click on that page and just start entering the word that you desire. Your cursor immediately will jump to the first instance of the term.
You can also use the feature for links. For instance, rather than moving your mouse cursor across the page to “learn more” link, simply start typing that word and when mouse cursor finds it, you have to just press enter.
Eliminate every trace: For privacy and security reasons, it is not a good thing or rather harmful to leave trail of sites that you have visited as you browse. Firefox will allow you to erase your download and browsing history as well as allow you to delete your cookies and clear your cache in a single mouse click.
All you have to do is click on 'tools' option and click on 'clear private data'. To be more careful, you have to go to edit option. You have to then select preferences option and then select 'privacy'. You can then select “Always clear my private data when I close Firefox”.
