Can personal settings be stored in Firefox?

Can personal settings be stored in Firefox? This can be achieved easily in Firefox. Firefox allows you to keep a backup of personal settings including extensions, passwords and bookmarks. Firefox takes the help of a profile folder to store personal information on your pc. Do you wish to keep a back up or move the back up to another location? You can achieve it in one step. You can either copy or move profile folder for restoring your back up.

If you are really serious about keeping a back up, then locating the folder is a must, otherwise you won't be able to restore your data. Find out the exact location of profile folder in order to restore your data. The profile is stored in the xxxxxxxx.default folder. XXXXXXXX is a string of characters. For locating the profile, do the following:

1]By clicking on places menu, a list of options will be displayed. When you select the home folder, file browser window is seen.

2]Choose view menu and then choose “show hidden files”.

3]After that you will have to double click on .mozilla folder.

4] Now double click on folder that is marked as “firefox”. This folder will be containing profile folder

Is it very easy to keep a back up of personal information?

A couple of steps done correctly will help you to keep a back up of profile folder. If you do the steps in the sequence, you will be able to restore the profile folder.

1] The file option that you will see in profile folder need to be selected. After that one more option you need to select which is “Quit menu item”

2] As told above, find out the profile folder

3] When you are successful in locating your profile folder, right click on it and then choose the copy option.

4] The last step involves right clicking on back up location and then choosing the paste option.

Is restoring or moving a profile to a new location a difficult task?

This is very easy and can be done by the execution of the steps given below:

1] Shut down the browser completely. In short, close Firefox folder as explained above

2] By using Firefox profile manager, you will be able to make new profile in the location you want. After you have saved your profile,just exit from profile manager

3] Find out the profile folder that you have backed up on hard drive. Once you are able to access your old profile folder, copy entire contents such as mimeTypes.rdf file and bookmarkbackups folder. After copying them, place contents into new profile folder. If there are existing files of same name then just overwrite them

4] Now again start Firefox folder.

If you are a Firefox browser that belongs to the advanced user category then you would not like the above method to restore it to different location. Advanced users generally prefer the following steps:

1] Now, first thing that you should do is locate profile folder that you have restored on backup medium and then copy and paste it to hard drive. Make sure that you copy it to default profile location

2] Double click on “profiles.ini text editor” to open it. The file is located in firefox folder.

3] Now in profiles.ini file, locate the entry for profile that has been just moved. Now change path=line to new location

4]Now there is a line with text IsRelative=1. Now change the text to IsRelative=0

5] Review the changes that are made and then save it in profiles.ini

6] Now launch Firefox browser
