Audio or video doesn’t play

What will you do if audio or video content of a web page is not being displayed properly in your Firefox browser. Given below are some tips that can help you to solve these problems. However, by installing certain plug-in these problems can be solved.

Plug-in: Although Firefox is able to display media content on web pages that include images, it requires browser plug-in and media players for audio, video and other content. You may have installed the correct media players to play audio and video files, but you may not be having the necessary plug ins when media content is embedded within web page itself. Following are some common plug-in, media types they can handle efficiently and how to configure or install them

Windows Media Player: This plug in will play only few Windows media formats such as .asf, .wm, .asx, .wvx and .wmv unless that web page is designed specifically for Firefox

Quick Time: This plug in can handle a variety of media file formats, however it cannot be configured for handling file formats that are found online that include .mp3 and .mpg. You can choose media formats that you want this plug in to play in Firefox

Add-on Solutions: You can install Firefox add-on that you want as a workaround or a solution for media playback issues. Media wrap extension allows embedded media content to display in Firefox browser with your plug-in that you have installed

Greasemonkey Extension: If you use this extension with IE media mimic script, it can definitely resolve your Firefox problems. The script changes all embedded media content in each and every web page to play using Windows media player plug in. This script also changes how the content is embedded to mimic IE behavior.

MediaPlayerConnectivity: This extension launches the embedded media on web page using external player applications. It does not take the help of browser plugins

If you think that you cannot open web pages in Firefox that require Internet explorers then you are completely wrong. All you have to do is install an add-on that opens an instance of IE inside of Firefox browser. These extensions include:

IE View Lite, and IE View extensions that will enable to right click a link or web page and then open it in IE

You can also use the IE Tab extension as it allows Firefox to make use of IE for displaying web pages inside Firefox. IE is accessed through Firefox user interface.

Other solutions: Some websites that have multimedia content require you to enable cookies or pop up windows or that you completely disable ad-blocking. Do the following:

1] Check whether cookies are enabled in privacy panel of Firefox options. Make sure that the website isn't blocked in Cookie Exception list.

2] You can allow the site to open as an exception in Firefox pop up blocker. You will find the “Block pop windows” option in Content panel of Firefox options.

3] You can also disable Firefox extensions or ad-blocking software such as Adblock Plus or Adblock. If the site is working with ad-blocking software, you can add the website to your white list that is in Adblocker filter

Advanced Users: If you make use of a Windows host file, you can disable it by simply renaming it as Xhosts. Or else you can edit this host’s file for removing specific entries that include ad.doubleclick.net that can definitely cause on some sites to fail. So if you want to apply changes to hosts file, you may have to flush DNS cache by typing the command ipconfig/flushdns in Run dialog box.
