Using Spell checker in Firefox

Firefox is an Internet browser that is used for visiting web pages of your choice. If you have installed Firefox then you are surely going to enjoy browsing the internet. Searching for web pages that you are looking for is very simple using Firefox. This browser allows you select the search engine. You can use search engines like Yahoo, Google and many more. When you open Firefox, the first thing that you will see is your home page. By default, Firefox's home page appears.

An important feature of Firefox browser is that it checks spelling of words that you type in text boxes. When you complete typing the word, it is immediately checked against the words in installed dictionary. If that word is not in the dictionary, then it is underlined in red. Note that automatic spell check is turned on only for text boxes that contain more than 1 line, where you are allowed to type as much words as you can.

How to disable automatic spell checking: Disabling automatic spell checking is not a difficult task. Firefox is configured by default to automatically check the spelling. Firefox can be turned off in Options window. Perform the following steps given below to get the desired result.

1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on Tools menu and then choose 'Options'.

2] Select Advanced panel

3] Click on general tab

4] Choose 'Check my spelling as I type'.

5] Click on 'OK' button.

Correcting misspelled words: When you enable spell checking, it becomes an easy task for you to correct misspelled words. For correcting the misspelled word, you have to right click on the word and then choose one of suggested words that is at the top of menu. If you find that not even a single word is appropriate then you can manually edit it. In case you come to know that the word is correctly spelled then you can always add the word to the online dictionary. For adding any word to the online dictionary, you have to right click on the word and then choose 'Add to Dictionary'.

Adding dictionaries: You can always install other dictionaries. Do the following to install other dictionaries.

1] Right click in multi-line field

2] Choose languages

3] Select Add dictionaries...

4] The Mozilla Firefox add-ons dictionary page appears. For adding a dictionary to Firefox installation, you have to click on “Install Dictionary” link beside the dictionary that you wish to add. On clicking this option, software installation window will appear. Click on 'install now' and 'Add-ons' window will open.

5] For enabling the dictionary, you have to click on 'Restart Firefox' button in Add-ons window.

Switching dictionaries: After you have installed the dictionary, you can access it as required. For switching to another installed dictionary, you have to right click in multi-line field, choose 'Languages' and then choose the dictionary you wish to use.

How to remove a word that you have accidentally added: Removing a word that you have added by mistake is possible. It just requires execution of some simple steps.

1] Select file option from menu that is at the top of Mozilla Firefox window

2] You have to then select exit menu item

3] Open Firefox profile folder

3] Open file persdict.dat in text editor. Your text editor can be a word pad

4] Each word that you have added in text editor is on separate line. Now remove the line that contains the word you want to remove.

5] Click on file menu and then choose save option to save the work.
