Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Ensure you do not install unnecessary Firefox extensions.

Recently, I came across a web page where an end user of the Firefox web browsing software application had conducted an experiment to discover whether the Firefox web browser can support two hundred extensions at a single point of time. As one can well understand, at no point of time can any end user of the Firefox web browsing software application use two hundred Firefox extensions at the same point of time. The whole purpose of the exercise was purely academic. The end user simply wanted to find out whether the Firefox web browsing software application will survive the weight of two hundred Firefox extensions running simultaneously or not.

Needless to say, the Firefox web browsing software application of this end user became very slow after he installed two hundred Firefox extensions. After manually installing two hundred Firefox extensions, he restarted the Firefox web browser to activate the Firefox extensions. The end user received forty seven pop up windows requesting him to configure the Firefox extension. After closing all the popup windows, he discovered that he had barely one fourth of the screen that was originally available to him. That is to say, where he earlier had one hundred percentage of the screen space available to them to view the web pages, he now had just twenty five percentage of the screen space available to view the web page. The remaining space occupied by the various toolbars created by the Firefox extensions.

The end user admitted that the Firefox web browsing software application became very slow after he ran two hundred Firefox extensions simultaneously on the web browser. However, that the Firefox web browsing software application did not cause any problems other than the fact that it was running slowly. That is to say, the Firefox web browsing software application is such a versatile web browser that it can function smoothly despite two hundred Firefox extensions running in the background. The end user who conducted this experiment said that he found inspiration from another individual who had installed one hundred Firefox extensions on the Firefox web browser. When the Firefox web browsing software application can support two hundred Firefox extensions at the same point of time, it would have been very easy for the Firefox web browser to handle one hundred Firefox extensions.

The whole exercise clearly shows that the Firefox web browsing software application is not a slow web browser. If you find that the Firefox web browsing software application installed on a computer is taking an unnaturally long time to load or if you discover that the Firefox web browsing software application is working very slowly, check out the number of Firefox extensions installed. In nine cases out of ten, the primary reason behind this fall in speed will to be installation of large number of Firefox extensions on the computer. While there is no doubt that the Firefox extension feature is a very useful feature, overdoing the number of Firefox extensions is going to harm your web browsing experience. Despite the fact that Firefox extensions are very small, if one installs hundreds of Firefox extension into the computer, it is but natural that the Firefox web browsing software application is going to slow down.

Most end users of the Firefox of browsing software applications complain that the Firefox web browser is very fast in the beginning but begins to slow down as time progresses. The fact that the Firefox web browser has been installed on computer for a long period of time has nothing to with the slowing down. As time progresses, the end user installs more and more Firefox extensions. Each Firefox extension uses the resources available to the Firefox web browser and this causes the computer to slow down. Hence, when installing Firefox extensions, do make sure you really need to that Firefox extension. Installing a Firefox extension is beneficial only when the benefit offered by the Firefox extension outweighs the loss of speed resulting from the installation.
