The McAfee Web Site Adviser is an excellent extension to bolster the security of your Firefox browser

There are quite a few security related Firefox extensions available on the internet. These security related Firefox extensions are very easy to use and very effective in protecting the Firefox web browsing software applications and the computer from the security threats present on the internet.

One such Firefox extension is the McAfee Web Site Adviser. The purpose of this particular Firefox extension is to advise you about the safety or lack of safety of each and every web site that you happen to be visiting.

When the McAfee Web Site Adviser Firefox extension is installed into your Firefox web browsing software applications, a small colored toolbar appears in your Firefox web browser. You have the freedom to place the tool bar below the navigation toolbar or in the status bar of the Firefox web browsing software application. Whenever you initiate the process of visiting any web site by typing the name of the web site in the address bar of the Firefox web browsing software application, the McAfee Web Site Adviser Firefox extension toolbar begins to change its color. If the website that you are visiting is safe, the McAfee Web Site Adviser toolbar will be green in color. On the other hand, if the web site that you are visiting is not safe as far as the records and analysis available to the McAfee Web Site Adviser extension, the color of the toolbar will turn red. On the other hand, if the web site is neutral or if the web site may be safe for some and unsafe for others, the McAfee Web Site Adviser toolbar will turn into yellow. If you happen to visit a website that has not been analyzed yet, the McAfee Web Site Adviser toolbar will not display any color whatsoever.

By using this simple color coding system, the Firefox extension clearly indicates whether the website that the end user is visiting is a safe web site or not by conducting detailed analysis of the safety features of the web site that the end user is visiting.

If you choose to view detailed information, you will be taken to a web page where the results of the analysis conducted by the McAfee Web Site Adviser shall be shown. All the files downloaded from the website shall be listed along with the information whether the same was free of viruses or not. If the files downloaded from the web site had failed the test, the web site would be classified as unsafe for your computer.

A chart will be shown indicating the various websites to which the web site is linked to. Today, no web site exists in isolation. Each and every web site is linked to other web sites. The web site that is safe but happens to be linked to unsafe website cannot be a good web site. Hence, McAfee Web Site Adviser toolbar checks whether the web site has any links to potentially unsafe websites or not. If a web site is linked to potentially unsafe websites, it indicated by red boxes on the chart. On the other hand, if all the websites to which the website in question is linked to happen to be safe websites, they are called green sites.

The result of visiting the web site or submitting an e-mail address to the web site is also recorded. Further, comments from other end users are shown to enable the end user to form a comprehensive opinion. Web sites that send a lot of advertisements and newsletters end up classified as potentially dangerous web sites. This is where the comment of the end users is very handy. This particular Firefox extension considers the technical points along with the human angle to determine whether a particular web site is a safe or not.
