Is it possible to restore session in Firefox?

You can configure Firefox to restore all tabs and windows that were opened when the application is terminated or closed unexpectedly. There are circumstances that allow you to restore session. You need to follow some steps to recover the web pages.

When does session restore occurs?

During a software crash: Due to unexpected problems such as issues with the website, loss of powers or software errors, Firefox will unexpectedly close. In such situations, the browser can restore the web pages that you had once visited before the crash.

It is very easy to restore these web pages. Do the following to accomplish the desired task

1] When you restart Firefox, to reopen all tabs and windows that were displayed before crash, you have to click on 'Restore session' button.

2] If your browser is still experiencing errors when tabs and windows are reopened, you should start the browser without restoring the web pages. For doing this, you have to click on 'start new session'.

After installing add-on: Many people install theme or extension to enhance the functionality of Firefox. When a new theme or extension is installed, it is necessary to restart Firefox to enable new add-on. Therefore, to restart, you have to click on 'restart Firefox'. All tabs and windows are reopened when the browser restarts and then installs new add-on.

After software update: For applying any updates to Firefox application, for instance if you have downloaded any extension or theme, you should restart Firefox. In order to restart , you have to click on restart Firefox.

How to configure session restore?

By default, when you start Firefox, a single window opens that displays your home page. If you want, you can also configure Firefox browser to open all tabs and windows from previous session. Perform the following steps given below to configure Firefox for a session restore:

1] At the top of Firefox window, you have to click on Tools menu and then choose options

2] Select main panel

3] From “When Firefox browser starts” drop down box, you have to choose “Show my tabs and windows from last time

4] Click on OK button

Note that when you enable restore session feature, you must close Firefox browser through the menu. If each window is closed at a time, only tabs that are in final window that are closed are re-opened when the Firefox browser restarts.

Privacy issues: Session restore feature keeps you logged in to websites that you had visited before crash. If someone else has used your machine after you then it is possible to access your account details on these websites. If you are concerned about this, then it is recommended that you should not configure Firefox browser to open all tabs and windows of previous session. That means you should not select “Show my tabs and windows from last time” option.

You should also disable crash recovery session restore feature that is enabled by default. This prevents restoring previous session when you reopen Firefox after software crash or an unexpected close. If you do not disable this feature, anyone will be able to access your account and may misuse this information. Thus, it will be a personal loss to you.

In location bar, you have to type about:config, then click on enter.
