Firefox 3.1 vs Google Chrome
There has been a lot of excitement over the launch of the new browser from Google. Google claims it to be the best among the browsers currently available. However, this needs to be checked out. Because Mozilla org believes though the Google Chrome seems to be a very good web browser, Firefox 3.1 will surely out perform it as well.
The main reason behind Mozilla believing so is that Firefox has the new technology for executing java script much faster than Google chrome can. Brendon Eich who is the chief technology officer for Mozilla conduced some tests, which proved this. Note Brendon Eich is the creator of Java Script.
The interpreter for Firefox 3.1 i.e. TraceMoneky will interpret the JavaScript at almost 28 % quicker than v8, which is the interpreter of the new Google chrome. Eich tried to run Sun Spider benchmarks on both the new web browsers and he found that both of them are almost the same.
Google and some people think that Google Chrome is going to give a very tough completion to Firefox and as a result of this the popularity and use of Firefox is going to decline to some extent. Google also claims that Chrome has some additional or better features than Firefox 3.1 like for example, the SunSpider benchmarks, etc. however Mozilla denies this.
Eich tried to ran SupSpider benchmarks on both of these new browsers and he found that there are not any significant differences as were claimed by Google. In addiotna to this as Firefox 3.1, provides the advantage of being the faster than Google Chrome and also providing more security it will still remain the hot choice of most users.
Several people downloaded and tried Google Chrome immediately after its release this weak. They have posted their views and reviews on different sites. There are a large number of users, who said that the Google Chrome really worked faster than the current latest version of Firefox i.e. the version 3.0.1
However, though Chrome can be called a very good work and a very good browser as well, the capacity of the interpreter in chrome i.e. V8 is lower than TraceMonkey. The difference becomes more clear when you would when the question of dramatic and additional speed improvements arises.
However, in any case Mozilla has been working on TraceMonkey for just 3 months. On the other hands, Google has been developing V8 for almost 2 years. Therefore, it can be guessed that there is a lot of scope for improvement in TraceMonkey than in V8. Mozilla says that it will keep on improving TraceMokey and this will make it faster and faster.
Mozilla says that if there are some specifications or fields in which TaceMonkey is beaten by v8, it will surely catch up, as there is a lot of scope left to do so.
At the end, Mozilla says that it is not a zero sum game. Only one of the browsers can win the game and the others will lose. It has never claimed that Firefox is the fastest browser. it says that its aim while developing Firefox was just to provide the users a good web browser for all purposes even for deploying web applications.
It is for sure that speed is not everything. There are a number of other things as well which make a web browser a good one. The over all performance is what matters. And when it comes to the overall performance Firefox 3.1 will surely outmatch Chrome, because of a number of unique and use features like allowing developers to create web applications, etc.
