Firefox 3 has put forward new ideas of surfing

Firefox Themes: Efforts have been made to design new default themes for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux in Firefox 3. While doing this, the browser has given a more native feel and look on various operating systems. Particular themes were designed for Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows XP. Firefox 3 shows icons from the environment, when users run it on the GNOME or on the K Desktop Environment. In this way, when the icon theme of the desktop environment is altered, the Firefox follows the same.

The default icons and icon diagram for Firefox is also changed. The forward and back buttons have taken a keyhole form. However, this shape never influences Linux or the small icon mode. Moreover, separate icon sets are shown for Windows Vista and XP.

Firefox Licensing: Firefox is a free and open source software. It is tri-licensed under the MPL- Mozilla Public License, GNU General Public license, and the LGPL Lesser General Public License. All the three licenses allow you to see, update, and redistribute the source code. Some of the publicly released applications also have been built on it. Flock, Netscape, Songbird and Miro are some of the applications that use code from Firefox.

The authentic end-user builds of Firefox are distributed from Mozilla.com and they are licensed under the Mozilla End User License Agreement. However, several elements do not come in the scope of the tri-license and therefore their use has been restricted by the EULA. Elements that come in this category are the proprietary artwork, the trademarked Firefox name, and the proprietary closed source Talkback cash reporter.

Earlier, Firefox was licensed wholly under the MPL, however, due to several concerns, Mozilla Foundation re-licensed Firefox under the tri-license scheme of GPL, MPL and LGPL. After the re-licensing scheme of Firefox, developers are free to select the license under which they will access the code.

Trademark and Logo issues: The name Mozilla Firefox along with the official Firefox logo is a registered trademark. It can only be used upon completions of certain terms and conditions of the Firefox Foundation. However, anyone can redistribute the authentic binaries in unmodified form and can use the Firefox branding and name for such distribution. The restrictions are placed on distributions that update the underlying source code.

The Firefox source code contains a branding switch in order to permit distributions of the code without using the authentic branding. The switch lets the code to be compiled without the official name and logo. In the unbranded assortment, the trademarked name and logo can be substituted with a free distributable generic globe logo. They can also be replaced with the name of the release series from which the updated version was taken. In such cases, the name Deer Park is used for derivatives of Firefox 1.5 and in the same way, the name Gran Paradiso is used for derivatives of Firefox 3.0.

For distributing updated versions of Firefox under the Mozilla Firefox name the precise sanction is required from Mozilla for the changes done in the underlying code. It also requires the use of all of the authentic branding. For example, using the name Firefox without using the official logo is not permissible.

Advertising on Firefox: Firefox became so popular all over the world in its first year of availability. That is why, the fast adoption of Firefox has seen about 100 million downloads in the first year. It also followed a series of aggressive marketing campaigns that started in 2004. In February 2008, Firefox reached a magic figure of 500 million downloads and the Firefox community celebrated this achievement with great interest.
